As part of its cultural activities, Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud’s Chair for the Study of Mecca’s History held a lecture that will be given by Dr. Arnaud Frolic, researcher and historian in Oriental studies, Head of Special Groups Department in the library of Leiden, the Netherlands. The lecture deals with the Meccan papers of Snouck Hurgronje stored at Leiden University, the Netherlands. This lecture is organized by Umm Al-Qura University, in collaboration with King Abdulaziz Foundation under the sponsorship of the University’s President Dr. Bakri bin Matouq Bakri Asas and the presence of HE Secretary of the Holy City Dr. Usama bin Fadl Albar, the University Vice-President Dr. Adel Ghobashi, Vice-President for Cognitive and Creative Work, Head of the Supervisory Committee on the University’s Scientific Chairs, Dr. Nabil bin Abdulkader Koshk and the Vice-President for Academic Development and Community Service Prof. Dr. Essam bin Hamed Al-Ahdal, Dean of the Institute of Consulting Studies, Dr. Usama Al-Emari, and a number of faculty deans and a number of officials, intellectuals, media figures as well as people interested in historic and cultural studies concerning Mecca.

Objectives of the lecture:
Service of the Meccan history and activating the role of the cultural chair, through interactive cultural discourse with other cultures and conducting dialogue between oneself and others.
Targeted group:
Open invitation; also intellectuals, people interested in Meccan history in Mecca and the surrounding areas, faculty staff, graduate study students, especially those who major in history.
Preparation for the Lecture:
This lecture was well-prepared as follows:
- Coordination with the university’s administration and King Abdulaziz Foundation to hold the lecture.
- Intensive advertising and publicity including:
- Holding a press conference at the office of the University President to announce the lecture, introduce the lecturer and the lecture’s subject and shed light on the chair and its activities.
- The news was published in all Saudi newspapers, a number of websites. The media coverage for the lecture events continued and two reports were aired on the Saudi TV news and the Cultural Channel.
- Announcing the event on the University’s website and the chair’s venue.
- Hanging banners and posters at the university.
Number of attendees:
The lecture was attended by a good number, about 300 men and women.
