Pharmacognosy is one of the basic disciplines of pharmacy which searches for drugs derived from natural sources such as plants, animals, various types of organisms (bacteria, fungi ect.) and marine organisms. The main topics of pharmacognosy are natural product drug discovery, biological activities and medicinal uses of the substances isolated from natural sources, herb-drug interactions and phytotherapy. The scientific activity of the department comprises teaching and research in pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, phytotherapy, pharmaceutical biotechnology and evidence-based CAM (complementary and alternative medicine).
