Manar Al-Mami`ah was established in 1403 A.H. as the first newspaper that the Media Department at Umm Al-Qura University issued. It has been run by a number of editors-in-chief from among the media professors and specialists at Umm Al-Qura University. Its documented publications have amounted to 140 issues, which were prepared and produced by a large number of UQU key figures in different disciplines and colleges throughout the course of the work of the newspaper.

Manar Al-Jami`ah Newspaper returns today to its audience of students and employees at Umm Al-Qura University in a whole new look that matches the great developments in the media industry. More than 30 students participate in its editorial team today, gathering and editing news, making news coverage, and photographing events in coordination with and under the guidance of the faculty members in the Media Department. There are more than 11 faculty members responsible for the editorial team, including media professors and an administrative team. The newspaper publishes its issues every 3 months from its headquarters at the Media Department, and has a seven-member advisory team of seasoned journalists and media professionals who follow up on the news and reportages made by the editorial team.

In the area of design and graphics, Manar Al-Jami`ah Newspaper cooperates with the College of Designs, as all the tasks related to the design, identity and infographics as well as all work related to the newspaper formats are assigned to the college students. This is in integrative cooperation between the department and other colleges whose scientific field is compatible with the interests and work of the newspaper.
