Level of Communication Awareness of the Corona Virus - Covid-19 A field Study on Saudi Society

Abstract

While the new Corona epidemic (Covid-19) continues to spread globally, with the number of infections exceeding half a million people, and the number of deaths exceeding twenty thousand people, and while the governments of the whole world are harnessing all their efforts and capabilities to stop the destructive spread of this epidemic, attention is focused on the awareness of societies and peoples. The seriousness of this epidemic and active participation in efforts to confront it as the decisive and most influential factor in fighting this epidemic and defeating it, through the strict adherence of peoples and social groups to the preventive measures issued by governments, especially those related to restricting movement, health isolation, staying in homes and preventing gatherings and mixing between Humans, as the most important defensive measure to prevent the spread of the epidemic, until the necessary treatments are developed to eliminate it. This study aims to identify the level of communication awareness about the Corona virus Covid-19 among members of Saudi society from the point of view of workers in the cities of Makkah, Jeddah and Riyadh, and adopted the descriptive approach, and the study tool was the questionnaire that was built for the purposes of the study by the researcher. The study found that there were statistically significant differences between males and females with regard to the level of knowledge of the Corona virus, Covid-19, and that males had better levels of knowledge about the virus than females. The majority of the study sample believed that the media played a distinct role in creating awareness and knowledge of the Saudi society about the Covid-19 epidemic. The study also shows that the country succeeded in containing the Covid-19 virus to a large extent with a percentage of (43.3%), followed by those who believe that the country succeeded in containing the Covid-19 virus to a large extent with a percentage of (31.2%).
