Abstract
The ending of a short story is a crucial element, but all aspects of the story must be carefully prepared to reach the moment of enlightenment. This moment is where the success or failure of the storyteller lies. However, studying this element in Arabic short stories has caused confusion among researchers, particularly in distinguishing between the ending and the resolution. Therefore, this research aims to explore the different types of endings and resolutions and demonstrate their differences through examples from Arabic short stories. The research yielded the following results:
- The term "narrative closure" encompasses the connotation of both the ending and resolution elements, but it is essential to differentiate between them conceptually and procedurally.
- Endings and resolutions are closely connected to the beginnings of a story and cannot be identified or adjusted in isolation from the relationships that lead to the story's conclusion.
- The analyzed Arabic short story models show that writers seek to modernize their creative writing by diversifying artistic means and giving careful attention to endings and resolutions in response to the demands of a dynamic literary genre.
