Contributions of scientific families to the development of educational thought

Volume 18, Issue 2, Page 87-102

TEXT

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the contributions of scholarly families to the development of educational thought. The study employed historical and deductive methodologies. The research questions were as follows: First question: What are the factors influencing the scientific and educational life of scholarly families in shaping their members? This was addressed in two sections: internal factors (within the family) and external factors (outside the family). Second question: What are the contributions of scholarly families to the development of educational thought? This was explored in eight sections: establishing an educational reference, systematic transmission of knowledge, developing educational curricula, sustaining resources, participating in educational reform, expanding educational knowledge, developing pedagogical principles, and methodical problem-solving in education. Third question: In which scientific fields did families contribute to the development of educational thought? This was presented in two areas: scientific fields and general life domains.Key Findings: The study of scholarly families is a phenomenon that distinguished educational thought prior to any other educational framework. Despite the importance of scholarly families, they have not received independent study that highlights their close and direct relationship with educational thought. One of the secrets behind the continuity of scholarly families is that eminent scholars devoted significant educational attention and effort to their children, ensuring their rigorous scientific formation. The sciences and knowledge integrated into Islamic educational thought were transmitted through scholarly families, and the transfer of knowledge from Islamic civilization to Europe also occurred via Jewish scholarlyfamilies. Scholarly families established educational references within local communities and systematically transmitted knowledge .
