Obstacles to employing artificial intelligence techniques at King Abdulaziz University

This study aimed to identify the most prominent challenges facing the employment of artificial intelligence technologies at King Abdulaziz University from the perspective of faculty members, and to reveal the statistically significant differences at the significance level of (0.05) between the average responses of faculty members regarding the challenges of employing artificial intelligence technologies at King Abdulaziz University, which are attributed to two variables: (academic rank, and six), The study used the descriptive survey method and relied on the questionnaire as a tool for collecting data. It was applied to a sample of (361) male and female faculty members at King Abdulaziz University. The study reached several conclusions, including: that all challenges facing the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies have a high impact from the perspective of faculty members at King Abdulaziz University, with an overall arithmetic mean of (3.56 out of 5.00). Financial challenges came in first place, the most prominent of which is the high costs required to implement the procedures and requirements for using artificial intelligence technologies. Organizational and administrative challenges came in second place, the most prominent of which is the lack of time available for training on the use of artificial intelligence technologies. Human challenges came in third place, the most prominent of which is the lack of awareness among university employees of the importance of implementing artificial intelligence applications. There were no statistically significant differences between the responses of faculty members at King Abdulaziz University attributable to the gender variable. However, the study showed statistically significant differences at the level of (≥ 0.05) in the opinions of the study sample regarding the challenges facing the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies at King Abdulaziz University according to the academic rank variable, in favor of the study sample of professors. The study recommended the need to adopt a clear planning strategy for employing artificial intelligence technologies, including: objectives, implementation mechanisms, performance measurement indicators, providing specialized training programs for faculty members and staff to develop skills in using artificial intelligence technologies, and allocating an appropriate budget to support artificial intelligence technologies, applications and tools at the university.
