Abstract
This study aimed to explore the role of spatial sense skills in developing kindergarten children’s readiness to acquire handwriting skills. To achieve this objective, the study employed a qualitative analytical approach, deemed appropriate for the nature and goals of the research. The study sample consisted of (10) children from the third level of kindergarten. Data were collected using multiple qualitative tools, including semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and document analysis of children’s performance in activities. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns in children’s behaviors and outputs, with a particular focus on activities targeting spatial sense skills, including visual–motor coordination, visual discrimination, and understanding spatial relationships. The results revealed a strong correlation between the development of spatial sense skills and the enhancement of readiness for handwriting, showing significant improvements in line control, organization of writing space, and accurate replication of shapes and letters. These findings indicate that spatial sense skills constitute a fundamental factor in the development of handwriting skills among preschool children. Based on these findings, the study recommends integrating spatial sense activities into kindergarten curricula and providing training for teachers on strategies to develop these skills, given their direct impact on enhancing children’s handwriting readiness and improving their cognitive and motor abilities related to writing learning.
