Abstract
Foundations of education are considered one of the main components at education colleges since their inception, and despite their importance, they have been subjected to a lot of criticism by professionals and practitioners alike. The current study tries to identify the current status of the field of foundations of education and develop a proposed vision for its development at education colleges in the light of contemporary changes. The study used the descriptive approach to analyze the academic and research reality of the field of foundations of education. The researcher analyzed two journals affiliated with the American Association for Educational Research; they are “Review of Educational Research” and “American Educational Research Journal”, and two Arabic journals; they are “The Journal of Education” (Al-Azhar University) and “The Journal of Educational Sciences” (Ain Shams University). The analysis aspects of all journals included the following: research topics, research methodologies, data collection tools, as well as the type of research, whether interdisciplinary or disciplinary, and finally the number of authors for that research; In order to identify the research orientations at these journals. The study came up with a proposed vision for developing the field of foundations of education at education colleges.
