Writing centers are an essential part of the academic experience. Such centers aim at developing students' language skills, and providing the needed support and guidance for them pertaining to their written assignments.
The Language Support Unit at the Department of English Language aims to accomplish the following objectives:
-
Harness the students' writing skills, more specifically, essay writing: It is an advanced stage of language learning that requires continuous training, even after students pass the course. The lack of the use of these skills after the fourth level may not only lead to the deterioration of writing skills, but also the deterioration of the linguistic level of the students. This is because writing is one of the few opportunities available to students to put the language into practice, and use it in different situations.
-
Design workshops and group training for students interested in developing these language skills.
-
Provide individual consultation based on the needs of students at different stages, with the aim of identifying weaknesses and strengths.
-
Sensitize the students to the problem of plagiarism, and teach them how to cite academic references.
