Umm Al-Qura University succeeded in applying its executive plan to perform the final exams attended in person on campus for about 10 thousand male and female students of the joint first year and the qualifying year as well as those in the practical and training courses. These exams were conducted according to systematic precautionary measures and close follow-up throughout the exam period, which started with the beginning of the month of Ramadan and will last for three weeks.

In this regard, the UQU vice presidents conducted daily inspection tours to follow up on the progress of the final exams in the college and ensure the readiness of the halls in terms of the adherence to safety guidelines specified by the Ministry of Health. They appreciated the students’ awareness and adherence to the preventive measures and their contribution to the success of the exam process. They also lauded the UQU President's close follow-up on the progress of the set plan in such a manner which ensures the safety of the students.

The security and safety departments played a prominent role in leading this phase by maintaining the university's internal facilities and creating a secure environment for the employees, students, and visitors, starting from when they arrive at the entrance gates until they leave the buildings. Such actions were conducted while imposing social distancing, using optical sorting machines and temperature meters, and verifying the student's status via the "Tawakkalna" application.

In the same time, the field teams created safe routes to direct students smoothly from the university entrance gates to the exam halls, and then directing them to the car park. This is in addition to organizing their exit from the university once they finished the exams to avoid crowds and gatherings.

The College of Community Service and Continuing Education has given the opportunity to the trainees of the health security program to volunteer within the “30 minutes” initiative, which has been launched in conjunction with the in-person final exams. The initiative aims to protect students from coronavirus and to contribute to raising the level of implementation of the precautionary plan at the entrances and halls of the qualifying year exams at the headquarters of the college. Moreover, it aims to spread the volunteer culture among university trainees and students, organizing their volunteer work under the supervision and follow-up of a group of academic staff members and employees.

The UQU President, Prof. Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, appreciated the efforts exerted to organize the exams attended in person on the campus while applying highly accurate precautionary measures. He reiterated the keenness of the university, represented by the relevant sectors, to maintain the safety of the students and to follow up their health and psychological well-being in order to enable them to overcome the exceptional challenges during this period. He also praised the keenness of His Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad Al Al-Sheikh, and His Excellency the Deputy Minister for Universities, Research, and Innovation, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sudairi, and their following up on the progress of the final exams in the universities and general education.

It is worth mentioning that the university previously held meetings in this regard, under the auspices of the UQU President and the UQU vice presidents, in addition to the meetings which were held with the Ministry of Education. This was to ensure adherence to safety protocols applied concurrently with the exams that would be conducted in person on campus, to prepare the appropriate environment by selecting halls with a large seating capacity, and to arrange a scheduled alternative plan for the students who had tested positive for COVID-19 or those who had been in close contact with a patient diagnosed with COVID-19.
