The scientific committee of Makkah Portal for Research and Innovation has nominated the research proposal of the academic staff member at the UQU College of Computing, Dr. Emad Felimban, on the modeling of crowd traffic on the Mina routes, to obtain a research grant within its awards for this year.
Dr. Felimban explained that the proposal focuses on analyzing the pedestrian traffic in the Mina camp to increase operational efficiency using mathematical models. Moreover, the proposal suggests using crowd simulation programs and predictive analyses to help create routes for pilgrims to avoid crowds.
Dr. Felimban said the idea of the proposal aims at raising the security and safety level with regard to grouping in the Mina camp, achieving the Saudi Kingdom's Vision for 2030 to host about 5 million pilgrims per year, gaining maximum benefit from the infrastructure, and unifying the efforts of the entities working during the Hajj Season to manage crowds efficiently.
