At the ‘Social Responsibility’ Forum: Setting Indicators for Community Issues and Providing the Necessary Solutions for Them

The participants, at the conclusion of the forum: "Social Responsibility... Visions and Aspirations", which accompanied the fourth meeting of the University Vice Presidents for Female Student Affairs and was held at Umm Al-Qura University through its “virtual” platform, recommended investing in technology and operating digital systems and programs in all areas of development, as well as developing the services provided for individuals and meeting the needs of society and its institutions. This is in addition to providing national cadres with the necessary technical skills and creating a stimulating environment that provides suitable job opportunities for them.

The meeting of the University Vice Presidents for Female Student Affairs discussed the roles of promoting community partnerships between universities and society. They reviewed the experiences of different vice presidencies in this regard.

Participants in the forum's sessions emphasized the importance of establishing administrative units within universities that are directly linked to their higher departments and are concerned with social responsibility, according to specific tasks. These include regulations that guarantee two features: disclosure and transparency, developing strategies and plans capable of organizing efforts and mechanisms to achieve their goals, and creating complementary foundations between the university sectors on the one hand and the sectors working in community service on the other hand.

They also discussed the contributions of scientific research in Saudi universities in consolidating the concepts of social responsibility and their role in addressing individuals' issues and their social problems as well as the obstacles they face, and in motivating researchers to conduct in-depth scientific studies that produce recommendations, suggestions, and appropriate solutions. They also discussed providing consultation and activating voluntary research services through education and training, strengthening participation between universities and specialized researchers, and including the principles of social responsibility within the school curricula to inculcate the values ​​of altruism by performing volunteer work to serve community issues.

The participants asked for the development of plans and programs to communicate with the different groups of society according to a clear methodology, and the adoption of appropriate indicators and standards that determine the results of these partnerships and the extent to which they meet the objectives of development and the desired aspirations.

On her part, the Vice President of Umm Al-Qura University for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah Al-Khouli, explained that the university, with its various sectors, placed social responsibility at the forefront of its priorities and within its strategic plans, being one of the main pillars on which its work in serving the community is based. She confirmed the support extended by the deanship to achieve social responsibility through the management of its programs and initiatives, whether inside or outside the university's walls. She also stressed the importance of the role of universities and their fulfillment of their social responsibilities and development by establishing scientific majors and providing academic expertise in order to achieve the goals of sustainable national development.
