The UQU Vice President for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah Al-Khouli, highlighted that the Islamic religion has honored man, preserved his rights, and prohibited all types of grievances between people. In this regard, she added that it has given the parents their rights and also guaranteed the women full rights, not like man-made laws, to protect the society and ensure the safety of its basic kernel represented by the family and all the members of the family unit.
This came in her speech before the educational and awareness forum, ‘My Protection 2’, organized by the Vice Presidency for Female Student Affairs via the virtual platforms in conjunction with the international campaign of the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women", which the General Assembly of the United Nations designated to be on 25 November every year. Moreover, the forum came within the framework of activating the social security program.
She said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia derives its authority from the Islamic creed, according to what has been mentioned in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace be upon him), and has enacted its laws within this sound method. She stressed the importance of awareness of the society about the protection of the women, child and some vulnerable groups who are subjected to abuse and domestic violence of all kinds, including physical, psychological or social violence.
The forum witnessed the participation of the university's female leaders and academic staff members, along with the university affiliates, in the academic sessions of the program that lasted two days. On the first day, the forum discussed "Family Safety for Children and Parents" and "Digital Violence Against Women". On its second day, the "My Protection 2" forum discussed the issue of "Protection of Children Against Sexual Violence".
The speakers in the forum tackled the issue of the educational methods and the necessary tips needed for parents to develop and consolidate values. They also shed light on the reality of violence in the digital world as well as methods of protection against it by introducing the rights guaranteed by the national systems, represented by the efforts of the kingdom to eliminate the increase in the cases of violence in the Saudi society and to adopt scientific and practical steps, which include creating guidance units for cases of family violence and centers to receive related notifications. These efforts also involve encouraging scientific research and studies in the field of family violence.
Moreover, they discussed the role of the educational institutions in supporting and caring for girls at early stages to protect them against sexual harm, since it is a type of violence against them. This is in addition to explaining concepts and skills with regard to personal protection, learned from theoretical and training courses on the proper behavior and responses in different situations, and spreading awareness among the members of the community through the media forums and campaigns.
