On behalf of the Minister of Education the Chairman of UQU Council Dr. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Iesa, the President of UQU Dr. Bakri Bin M'atoog Bin Bakri Assas chaired the 3rd meeting of university council for the academic year 1437/1438 H on Wednesday Jumada Al-Thani 9, 1438 H, at King Faisal Hall in Abdyia.
Dr. Assas, opened the session saying “All Praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessing be upon prophet Mohamed Bin Abdullah (peace be upon him), his family and companions. I am pleased and honored to open the 3rd session for the academic year 1437/1438H on behalf of the Minister of Education, the UQU Council Chairman. Welcome all of you, vice-presidents, deans, vice-deans and secretary general of the interim committee – acting for the Higher Education Council - our dear and honest colleague, Dr. Mohamed bin Abdel Aziz Al-Saleh”.
He went on saying “I, on behalf of his highness, myself and all members of the honorable council, welcome and congratulate Dr. Sami bin Yassin Barhmain for joining the membership of both UQU council and the Supreme Advisory Committee, after designating him as the Dean of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research, expressing sincere thanks and appreciation to the Dean of the College of Engineering and Islamic Architecture Dr. Hamza bin Ahmed Ghulman for all the efforts he exerted during his tenure at the Institute's Deanship in addition to his work". I pray Allah to grant them both all success.
All Praise is due to Allah and peace and blessing be upon the master of the prophets and commander of the believers, Mohamed Bin Abdullah peace be upon him.
The council discussed several topics on the sidelines of the third session including;
• To Awarde honorary doctorate degree in education service to the ex-Minister of Education Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Angari
• Approval of the summer semester for the current academic year 1437/1438 H
• To Approve request for appointing, extending appointments of a number of faculty members to be members in the councils of some colleges and institutes for two year.
• To Approve the closing accounts and the financial statements of the Students' Fund for the fiscal year 1436/1437 H
• Approval of hiring and re-hiring of a number of retired teaching staff (signing new contracts and renewing of old contracts).
• To Approve of creating the Saudi scientific arbitration Society in the department of Law, College of Judicial Studies and Regulations according to the formula submitted to council.
• To approve library endowment of Dr. Saud bin Masaad Al-Thobaiti for the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies.
• Approval of secondment and lending of a number of teaching staff to work outside the university.
• A faculty member was approved to be transferred to Taibah University in Al-Madinah.
• A number of graduate students (MSc and PhD) were approved to have a further opportunity as per the recommendation of the council of the deanship of postgraduate studies.
• To consider recommendations of the scientific council on approving early retirement and resignation requests of a number of teaching staff and persons of similar status.
• To approve request for granting bachelor and diploma degrees to students expected to graduate by the end of the second semester and summer semester of the academic year 1437/1438 H from all university colleges, institutes in Makkah and its branches in Al-Lith, Jamoum, Adhm and Al-Qunfudhah provinces.
the Council considered and discussed several academic and administrative issues and made appropriate recommendations on them.
