A Meeting Entitled: ‘Sleep and Food and Their Relationship to Obesity’

The Diabetes Center at Al-Noor Specialist Hospital organized an awareness-raising meeting on the occasion of the World Diabetes Day with the participation of Her Excellency Dr. Esraa Abdul-Salam Nurwaly from the Department of Clinical Nutrition. The meeting was entitled: "Sleep and Food, and Their Relationship to Obesity", and was held on Wednesday, 28 October 2020, via the Zoom application.

During the meeting, the following topics were addressed:

  1. Why is sleep important? (The cost of lack of sleep, and the effect of lack of sleep on obesity and mortality risk)
  2. The bidirectional relationship between sleep and diet
  3. Basic mechanisms of the bidirectional relationship between sleep and diet
  4. Studies supporting the relationship between sleep and diet
  5. The relationship of sleep with eating vegetables and fruits
  6. Conclusions

This event aimed to spread a culture of community awareness, informing the people of the importance of food and its different types and the good practices that raise the level of health and improve the lifestyle of the individual and society.

More than 60 beneficiaries of the hospital staff, students of the department, and those interested in this field attended the event.
