His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University, Prof. Abdullah Bafail, underlined that the decision of His Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad Al Al-Sheikh, which determines the return-to-campus mechanism in public schools and universities, guarantees the success of the educational process and helps maintain the safety of the students in light of the current circumstances due to the Coronavirus pandemic, thereby limiting the spread of infection. This will be achieved by applying strict preventive measures that are in line with the requirements of improving the quality of educational outcomes and achieving excellence in harnessing the required skills.
His Excellency the UQU President said the decision was issued at the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz (may Allah safeguard them), mirroring their earnest keenness on the progress of the educational process to realize the public interests of the UQU students while ensuring their well-being and safety. He also lauded the efforts extended by His Excellency the Minister of Education and his direct follow-up of the education sector and the development of the universities' programs and training plans.
His Excellency emphasized that the university's premises for practical and applied training is ready to receive the students on campus in accordance with the health precautions and requirements, while creating a suitable educational environment for them and providing all the necessary needs. He also pointed out the continuation of the technical updates to enhance the efficiency of the e-learning systems and to facilitate communication with the students in the theoretical courses, which will be held remotely.
It is noteworthy that the Minister of Education specified the return-to-campus mechanism for the university students according to the courses of the different academic departments. The theoretical courses shall be held remotely, and the students will attend the practical and applied courses in person on campus for a period of 7 weeks. Lastly, His Excellency underlined that the situation shall be re-evaluated to determine the apt mechanism for completing the remaining weeks of the first semester, according to the decisions of the university councils and relevant committees after assessing the evolving conditions and latest developments.
