The Student Medicine Club has launched a diabetes awareness campaign under the title "Control Your Blood Sugar ... To Enjoy Health."
The two-day campaign kicked off Friday (Jumada al-Oola 12, 1438H) at Red Sea Mall, Jeddah. It was divided into a number of pavilions to cover health education, medical tests, children, photography and interactive touch screen displays.
In the health education section, students raised awareness of the visitors about latest diabetes surveys and studies in the Kingdom and the world. Also, it provided explanation on the types of diabetes, reasons, symptoms and protective measures.
In the medical test section, visitors can measure their blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI) and blood sugar levels in diagnosing diabetes. In case the results were high or the visitor was a diabetes patient, analysis cumulative (A1c) of blood sugar would be made in addition to the funduscopy, and the Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) tests. According to the test results, the visitor is given tailored-awareness recommendations. At least 1,000 visitors from various age groups made the tests.
In the same campaign, children section provided entertainment facility for kids educating them about human body parts, the proper way of hand disinfection and games that enrich their knowledge about diabetes before they gathered to take photos wearing medical scrubs with "the Campaign's Super Hero, Na'eem".
On the other side, the interactive screen was available to try a new unique experiment. When the visitor tries to pick a piece of candy served on a table, an alarm rings to start a virtual interactive dialogue on the dangers of diabetes.
The event was attended by Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Amr Sakkaf and Dean of Medicine College Dr. Anmar Naser.
In the same context, Dr. Naser praised the campaign as 'the best' to be organized by students in Umm Al-Qura University (UQU). He extended thanks to Dr. Sakkaf, Dr. Omar Sunbol and Dr. Mansour Qazan for supporting the campaign.
