From among the initiatives put forward by Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) to achieve KSA Vision 2030, an initiative by the Deanship of Student Affairs was accepted. Such initiative aims to provide services and appropriate university environment for students with special needs. This will be through the establishment of a center to care for such precious category under the title, “Ghali (Precious),” which is the same title of the initiative.
The main objectives of the "Ghali" initiative are the provision of services and programs that will develop the capacities and potentialities of students with special needs, and promotion of methods of their preparation and involvement in the labor market.
The initiative also aims to prepare a university environment for them to enable them to complete their studies easily and conveniently. This will be through the provision of the appropriate university environment to their needs, and the construction of laboratories of their own to help them take better advantage of the educational material to better contribute to the development of their cognitive and academic abilities.
It is worth mentioning that the Deanship put forward a number of initiatives the preparation of which witnessed the exertion of great effort by its working team, represented by the Dean and Vice Deans. Such effort resulted in the acceptance of the "Ghali" initiative among the nine UQU accepted initiatives.
On this occasion, the Dean of Student Affairs extended deep thanks to all the working team members for their efforts in the preparation of initiatives. He gave special thanks to Dr. Kholod bint Muhammad Abunnaja, the Vice-Dean of the Deanship of Student Affairs for Student Support, the inventor of "Ghali" initiative idea, and its project preparation official. Such initiative stemmed from a real contact with the needs of such category via the Deanship’s Student Guidance Center Unit at the Vice Deanship for Student Support.
The Dean concluded his speech by wishing the initiative to achieve the desired results, and provide the students with special needs in the university with their aspired services and programs.
