His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University and Chairman of the Board of Wadi Makkah for Technology, Prof. Abdullah Bafail, stressed the necessity of making use of the energy of young men in serving the community and offering development suggestions and ideas according to their university fields of specializations. These suggestions and ideas can be presented within the programs and competitions held by the university in collaboration with competent governmental bodies, in order for them to be adopted and applied on the ground.
His Excellency delivered this statement directly after the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Saudi Umran Society at 'The Archithon: The Model District' which was organized by Wadi Makkah Real Estate Company. It aims at inspiring innovative ideas in the field of construction and technology, and employing them in developing the districts of Makkah Al-Mukarramah. It was held within a cooperative and interactive activity in which 11 teams from the students of the university participated.
The Chairman of the Board of the Society, Eng. Omar Qadi, pointed out that the approved agreement promotes the goals and the contributions of Umran Society in materializing the identity of the model district, and improving the services offered in residential districts with architectural and technical solutions. It also aims at making use of the experience of the national personnel in different sectors to achieve major changes in performance quality indicators.
The presented ideas were subject to strict standards in deriving solutions, studying the degree of their suitability to the problems, and investigating the extent of their benefit to the community. Moreover, the diversity of specialization in each of the participating teams helps in completing all aspects related to the final output and admission to the competition within the teams that are named after Makkah districts. The Malawi Team came first in the competition and received 5000 SR. Al-Sittin Team gained the second position and received 3000 SR, while Wali Al-Ahd Team gained the third position in the competition, receiving 1500 SR.
