A new study has suggested that social-network users suffer from cognitive and knowledge distortions. This was the conclusion of Samia S. al-Qurashi's MA thesis at the UQU College of Education, Department of Psychology. The thsis title is: "Predicting Knowledge Distortions as Measured by UQU Students' Use of Social Media". The researcher came to the conclusion that there is a positive correlation between the extent of knowledge distortions and the level of social networking.

Al-Qurashi inferred that using social media could be depended upon as a parameter for predicting knowledge deformity. No difference, though, was discerned between the level of deformity and the level social networking. The justification, as explained by the researcher, lies in the fact that the study sample (413 female students) covers diverse colleges and academic years.

The study came up with the conclusion that the level of knowledge deformity in UQU female students is intermediate; and so is the level of social-media use by the study sample.

In her MA thesis, al-Qurashi recommended preparing awareness-raising programs aimed at reinforcing students with proactive training skills that would hold back such social, religious and knowledge deformations, entrench in them sound principles and ethics, and encourage them to rationalize the of social networking
