Dr. Ziad Omran, faculty member at the College of Pharmacy and supervisor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, has published a paper under the title: "Physical and Biological Characteristics of Resistance to Multiple Drugs: Integrated Approach to Relation between PH and Cancer Resistance to Drugs". The paper was published at "Seminars in Cancer Biology", a peer-reviewed journal (9.96).
Dr. Omran mentioned that the paper touches on a substantial aspect of cancer treatment; that is the resistance of this disease to drugs, and relation between this resistance and PH of cancer-affected tissue. The change of PH of affected and non-affected tissue, he expounded, results in dependency on fermenting instead of blood-sugar oxidation to get the energy required for growth and cell-division. The published paper suggests using PPIs to overcome cancer resistance to drugs.
The college dean, Dr. Ahmed O. Babelgheith, lauded strenuous efforts of the college's scholars and researchers. He commended the support and patronage of the UQU President, Dr. Bakri M. Assas, for scientific research and innovations.
