Under the auspices of Her Excellency Dr. Nuhair Taha, the Vice Dean of the Adham University College, the supervision of the Deputy Head of the Department of Basic Sciences, Professor Nouf Al-Zahrani, and in the presence of the deputy heads of the departments and the female academic staff members, the Department of Basic Sciences organized an campaign entitled, "An Awareness Campaign about Leishmaniasis", on Tuesday, 5 November 2019, at the University College, Adham campus. The course was offered by the Assistant Professor of Parasites in the Department of Basic Sciences at the University College, Her Excellency Dr. Rayah Ali Sultan.

We chose Leishmaniasis due to the increase in the number of infections during the last few years, the lack of vaccines that protect against the Leishmania parasite, and the dangers the disease causes.

The campaign started with a questionnaire for the female attendants checking their information about Leishmaniasis, and a distribution of folders containing all the useful details about the campaign. The campaign also presented information on the sandfly, which is the vector host of Leishmania, the mechanism of disease transmission, types of Leishmania and the differences between these types, and the diseases they cause to human beings. Moreover, the campaign provided the geographical distribution of Leishmania throughout the world, and the statistics of the Saudi Ministry of Health. The symptoms and the medical and natural methods of treating the disease were covered, as well as preventative recommendations regarding the disease.

At the end of the event, many visitors commented by writing their views and expressing their appreciation about the campaign and the benefit they gained from it. Modern technologies and means of social media, such as Twitter, were used to inform a large sector of the community.

Finally, female students from the Department of Biology launched a mobile campaign at the college to spread information among female academic staff members, employees, and students.
