With the aim of promoting the International Volunteer Day, and in order to implement the principle of community partnership between the department and the various community institutions, the Department of Psychology, represented by Her Excellency Dr. Sumayyah bint Ezzat Sharaf, Assistant Professor of Mental Health and Psychological Counseling and Vice Dean of Scientific Research at Umm Al-Qura University, participated in a forum entitled: "Volunteering to Create a Comprehensive Future". Al- Ahyaa Centers Association, represented by (Suqya Al-Ata') volunteer team, undertook the organization of this event, which took place on Thursday evening, 5 December 2019.
The participation consisted of giving a motivational lecture, as part of the lectures of the forum. The lecturer focused on highlighting the importance of encouraging volunteer behavior, as well as the necessity of developing it further. It also shed light on the most significant psychological studies that discussed volunteering, and showed its relation to some psychological variables. In addition, it emphasized the role of volunteering in achieving mental health and contributing to psychological equilibrium and social adjustment.
The Head of the Department of Psychology at the College of Education, Dr. Salim Al-Mufriji, added that paying attention to fostering volunteer behavior and services is considered one of the pressing demands, especially since it has become a national strategic issue advocated by the Saudi Vision 2030, which has set specific targets and indicators for its envisaged achievement. This can only be realized by conducting research, awareness, and educational activities about the importance of volunteering and its requirements, in light of the Saudi Vision 2030.
