Department of Psychology Participates with a Course Entitled: ‘The Application of Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodology in Shari`ah Fields’
His Excellency Prof. Rabi` Sai`d Taha, Professor of Statistics at the Department of Psychology, offered a course on Wednesday, 13 Rabi` Al-Thani, 1441 A.H., entitled: 'The Application of Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodology in Shari`ah Fields'. The course came within the series of the "Promising Cadres in Shari`ah Research" program 2 organized by the Islamic Studies Center of the Deanship of Scientific Research, in cooperation with the training center at the College of Da`wah and Fundamentals of Religion.
The course was designed to achieve the following:
Understanding the basic concepts of scientific research methodologies.
Developing skills of participants in scientific research methodologies.
Knowing when and how to apply quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
Increasing awareness of common statistical errors in quantitative and qualitative research applications.
How to determine the proper statistical technique.
Encouraging the researcher to adopt diverse research methods: quantitative, qualitative and mixed research.
During the course, Prof. Rabi` Taha tackled the following themes:
Some basic concepts in scientific research.
Different scientific research methodologies.
Applications of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
Common statistical methodological errors in the quantitative and qualitative research applications.
Sequential diagram to define the proper statistical method.
The audience showed their appreciation of the course, displaying positive attitudes towards adopting diverse research methods in using quantitative and qualitative research in such a manner which serves community issues. They expressed their wish for such courses to be repeated due to the scientific benefits they provide.
