Dr. Turki bin Mohammd Habiballah, Head of the Environmental and Health Research Department at the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research at Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), pointed out that Makkah Civil Defense General Directorate had included the Institute in the Committee concerned with the comprehensive planning of the valleys, watersheds and floodplain passing through Makkah and its affiliated villages. He also explained that the committee was membered by many executive authorities on top of which were Geological Survey Authority, General Department of Flood Projects at the Makkah Municipality, Roads and Transportation Department in Makkah, Makkah Electricity Department, General Directorate of Education in Makkah, Makkah Civil Defense General Directorate, in addition to other related authorities. The most important tasks of this committee is to check on all schemes and valleys in Makkah according to agreed schedules in addition to monitoring the villages though which these valleys come though depending on delegates well-known for the committee.
Dr. Turki Habiballah said that the Committee checked on so far all the schemes and areas located at Noman Valley in the eastern part of Makkah. He added that it would resume work within the framework of the Central part during the days to come. He also pointed that the Institute would be responsible for preparation of detailed maps and reports of flood-stricken regions.
