Under the patronage of the Cultural Activity Division of the Department of Mass Communication at the UQU College of Social Sciences, the Media Club at the Department of Mass Communication organized a course entitled, "How to become a Public Relations Specialist". The course was held on Monday, 28 Rabi` Al-Awwal, 1441 A.H., and was offered by an academic staff member at the department, His Excellency Dr. Faisal Ahmad Saleh Al-Shimiri.
His Excellency pointed out that the field of public relations is one of the vital and developing areas, relying on all the modern developments in devices, methods, and means. Therefore, the term had 472 definitions in 1975 A.C. In addition, there are varied types of public relations, including modern, marketing, international, and diplomatic public relations.
Dr. Faisal explained that those who work in this field should be interested in personal, intellectual, spiritual and physical qualities, as well as self-development using the power of modern technology and various communication skills. This is for talent to develop into professionalism, through study, the ability to apply knowledge, and participation in training, to practice public relations work in order to gain experience and become professional. This is achieved by mastering public relations processes and its functions, through research, planning, communication, and evaluation, to be able to work in activities and programs in the public relations industry.
Moreover, His Excellency explained areas of work in public relations, employment opportunities for specialists in this field, the necessary requirements for such posts, and how to get a job once you have gained the skills of this field, along with personal skills needed, and the skills necessary for these posts.
In concluding, His Excellency tackled the steps of getting a job: submitting an application attached with a CV, field achievement models, passing the written exam, the interview, and some tips for succeeding in all these.
