Yesterday (Tuesday), the UQU College of Medicine organized a workshop on the Health Training Program for medical residents in the hospitals of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region, as part of the Saudi Fellowship Program, organized by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. The workshop was held in the presence of the college dean, Dr. Abul-Salam Nur Wali, and was attended by a number of officials from the hospitals of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.

The workshop included a series of courses on continuing medical education. It aimed to harness the skills of the college training program for supervisors and trainers with regard to clinical training and evaluation skills through their participation in the fellowship programs, and the partnership between the UQU College of Medicine and the hospitals of the region. The workshop was designed to support the sustainability of the modern clinical training model, upgrade the level and quality of medical students, and showcase the educational outputs and the available teaching and learning opportunities during field training.

The head of the Permanent Higher Committee for Curricula at the College, Prof. Dr. Hani Al-Mu`allim, explained that the updated curriculum of the College of Medicine is based on field health training for the first-year students, with the aim of enhancing the students' status and helping them assume their roles as active members of medical teams at the medical centers and hospitals.

Moreover, he stressed that medicine is a field science that requires daily practice in line with global training trends, which emphasizes the need for medical students to receive practical training and field experience, and acquire the necessary skills through first-hand learning experiences. This ensures graduating highly qualified medical practitioners with high efficiency and skills in accordance with the standards of the Ministry of Health by working with medical teams supervising the healthcare services provided to patients. This objective is accomplished by undertaking practical training in medical clinics, partaking in surgical operations, and participating in other healthcare activities related to physiotherapy and medical radiology, in addition to the practical application of the acquired specialized skills in nursing.

The Vice Dean of the College for Hospital Affairs, Dr. Alaa Munjed, delineated the strategic plan of the College of Medicine, which is in harmony with the requirements and quality of clinical training, in the undergraduate and postgraduate fellowship programs. This includes upgrading the skills and experience of the trainees, and improving the quality of the health services provided in the hospitals of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region.
