The Initiatives Management and Vision Realization Office at Umm Al-Qura University, represented by His Excellency the General Supervisor, Dr. Ihab Milibari, and His Excellency the Deputy Supervisor General, Dr. Faisal Baruwais, participated in the workshop held by the Deputy Ministry of Education for Research and Innovation entitled, "KSA University Research and Innovation Strategy", on Wednesday and Thursday, 16–17 Rabi` Al- Awwal 1441 A.H., corresponding to 13–14 November 2019 A.C., at the Crown Plaza Riyadh Hotel in the Digital City, Riyadh.

The first day of the workshop focused on the best practices in this area. On its second day, practical sessions were provided for appropriate mechanisms and tools to develop and implement the strategy of scientific research and innovation.

His Excellency Prof. Naser bin Muhammad Al-Uqaili, Deputy Minister of Education for Research and Innovation, pointed out that the workshop represents a strategic transformation in the mechanisms of financing scientific research and innovation in Saudi universities. The shift will be from supporting individual projects to sustainable institutional support initiatives, in addition to shifting attention from measuring outcomes to focusing on measuring impacts.
