On the occasion of the World Mental Health Day (observed on 10 October every year), the postgraduate students of psychology organized an activity, under the supervision of Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mahbub, which was entitled:
Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention
It took place on Wednesday, 24 Safar 1441 A.H., in the yard of the ground floor, building Y.
This activity aimed at raising awareness of the importance of mental health and proper management of suicidal desire or thoughts. During the activity, various PowerPoint presentations were offered which tackled the following topics:
- Importance of identifying what suicide is.
- Obstacles to the detection and prevention of suicidal tendencies.
- Predicting individuals who are prone to making suicide attempt.
- Suicide prevention is a global priority.
The activity discussed depression and its causes, in addition to the diagnostic indicators of depressive disorders, including psychological, physiological and behavioral symptoms. It also discussed psychosocial and antidepressant therapies, along with presenting the case of a patient suffering from depression.
The concepts of happiness, joy, self-responsibility, and other positive feelings were also addressed and promoted during the awareness activity.
