The Cultural Club at the Deanship of Student Affairs at Umm Al-Qura University succeeded in presenting the weekly Toastmasters program for developing students' skills in the art of public speaking. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Omar Sunbul, indicated that the deanship is keen to show, through its students' clubs, several programs and courses that help the students acquire several skills in different fields, including the Toastmaster programs.

The Head of the Cultural Club, Mr. Faris Nahhas, pointed out that the club has several cultural and extracurricular activities that are offered throughout the year. It also contributes in attracting creative persons in the fields of poetry and story writing, as well as those who have various cultural hobbies.

Ammar Al-Hudhali, one of the students of the Media Department (public relations) participating in this program, considers possessing public speaking skills to be an important requirement in the field of contacts and communication. The benefit gained by developing these skills is due, at first, to Allah, and then to the cultural club, which has contributed greatly in this field.

A Toastmasters meeting is conducted weekly, every Saturday after Maghrib (Sunset) prayer. It comprises three main sections: First section, the visitor or the member chooses the topic they will talk about, or it may be chosen by the coordinator of the meeting. A second section, in which time is dedicated for previously prepared speeches. And the third section tackles the evaluation of speeches, in which previously prepared speeches are assessed.

The Toastmaster international organization is an nonprofit educational institution that was established in 1924 A.C. It teaches speaking skills and public leadership through an international network of clubs, whose main headquarters are in the United States of America. The number of its members exceeds 358 000 in more than 16800 clubs, in 143 countries, including Umm Al-Qura University Club. "Toastmasters" helps persons with different cultural backgrounds to be more confident speakers, reporters and leaders.
