The Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Thamir Al-Harbi, on behalf of His Excellency the UQU President, launches the Revival of Medical Manuscripts Exhibition which was organized by the Institute of Manuscripts and the Revival of Islamic Heritage, in cooperation with the College of Medicine. The exhibition comes as a part of the celebrations of the World Arabic Manuscript Day, and was held in the presence of the vice deans of the institute, Dr. Abdul-Rahman Balkhiyur and Dr. Sa`id Al-Qarni, the former Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Anmar Nasir, the vice deans of the College of Medicine, and a number of specialists and students.
The exhibition contained 15 medical manuscripts, covering (internal medicine, cardiology, surgery, medical education, medical instruments or techniques, ophthalmology, tracts, and others). These manuscripts are considered informative medical material that can enrich the linguistic, philosophical and terminological aspects of the principles of medical sciences.
Furthermore, a scientific seminar entitled, "Medical Terminology... History, Language and Procedure", was held. The former Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Anmar Nasir, participated in this seminar, in addition to the Vice Dean of the College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies for Training and Community Service, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Salami, and the Vice Dean of the Institute of Manuscripts for Technical Affairs and Development, Dr. Sa`id bin Muhammad Al-Qarni.
The symposium stressed the importance of taking care of the Islamic heritage in general and medical manuscripts in particular. It recommended the development of some vital curricula to teach the history of science, and to link the inherited sciences with the acquired ones. It also recommended the creation of research groups from disciplines connected with the language and subjects of the manuscripts, to revive and fulfill this heritage.
Furthermore, the lecturers recommended that the students of the medical colleges should familiarize themselves with these manuscripts in order to benefit from them in their scientific and practical life. They highlighted the importance of shedding light on them, and opening the horizons of knowledge to identify new treatments and medicines.
Moreover, the Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Thamir Al-Harbi, pointed out that these scientific meetings are of great importance to researchers, specialists and students, in order for them to be acquainted with the manuscripts and to revive and use them. He praised this work, which he described as "extraordinary". He also praised the support of His Excellency the UQU President for such outstanding work that meets the needs of Umm Al-Qura University to achieve quality in its strategic plan, thereby achieving the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030.
