The Department of Mass Communication at Umm Al-Qura University won the third place in the field of short feature films for the film "Miracle" at the level of Egyptian and Arab universities in the International Competition of the Fourth Shorouk Festival for the Creativity of Media Students, in which 38 Arab and Egyptian universities participated, under the patronage of the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Dr. Enas Abdul-Dayim.

The Head of the Mass Communication Department, Dr. Salim bin Ali Urijah, was given the shield of excellence and creativity, as well as the certificates of thanks and appreciation by the Major General Dr. Ahmad Abdul-Raheem, President of the Shorouk Academy, and Prof. Muhammad Sa`d, President of the festival, during the ceremony held at the Egyptian Opera House.

Dr. Salim Urijah congratulated the students of the department who achieved this advanced position. He pointed out that they achieved the third place in a competition with (116) films presented by different educational and academic institutions specialized in media sciences and documentaries. This was the outcome of the distinguished work of the highly efficient academic cadres in the department that contributed to the rehabilitation of cadres that were able to compete for the awards given to the media at the local and international levels.

He stressed that winning this advanced position comes in line with the support and care extended by His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, President of Umm Al-Qura University, and his efforts to raise the level of scientific and practical outputs. He also commended the support and attention provided by the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Dr. Adnan bin Nuri Al-Harbi for his keenness and the continuous follow-up to provide all that would improve the educational and research outputs and non-classroom activities to serve his students. All this contributed to the college's excellence in the educational process, and it gained many local and international awards, which made it surpass other universities and reach advanced positions in all areas.

It is worth mentioning that the festival, organized by Al-Shorouk Academy in Cairo, in the presence of a selection of stars of art and media is the largest gathering of colleges and sections and institutes of information in Arab and Egyptian universities. It witnessed a number of training courses and workshops in the field of media work that were attended by a group of media professionals over four days.
