On Wednesday, 15 Jumada Al-Thani, 1440 A.H., the Department of Chemistry, represented by the Internal Training and Capacity Building Committee, held a training course entitled, "Preparation of Laboratory Solutions and Notes on Spectral Analysis". The course was، presented by Dr. Muhammad Qasim, an assistant professor in the department. It included several themes, the first of which was how to prepare solutions inside the chemistry labs and how to avoid most of the problems and mistakes that may happen during the preparation process. The second theme was relevant to the nature of light and spectra and its overlapping with molecules, as well as its scientific basis and how to use the spectrophotometer in the visual and ultraviolet range and the necessary precautions to be taken. The lecturer also explained the spectrophotometer work in the infrared range, and the types of vibrations that occur inside the molecules during the measurement. The lecture also included practical training on UV/Vis and IR devices.
The course was attended by a large number of male and female technicians, in addition to the male and female academic staff and postgraduate students.
This course comes within a series of courses offered by the department to raise the level and skills of technical cadre in various fields.
