In collaboration with Zahra Association, Dr. Hala Bint Said Al Amoudi, the Dean of the University Studies for Girls, has launched today, Monday 23rd Muharram 1438H, the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign entitled "Your Awareness Now: Hope and Safety Vow." The event will continue till Thursday 26/01/1438H. The event, which has been held at Al-Jawhara Hall, Al-Zahir Headquarters for Girls, has been attended by the Vice-deans, Vice-Deans of Supportive Deanship, Vice-deans of colleges and Assistant Heads of Departments.
The event started with launching the Human Pink Ribbon at all buildings of Al-Zahir Headquarters. Then the Dean of the University Studies, along with her companions, toured through the campaign's exhibition which had been prepared by The Vice-Deanship for Student Activities and Training, Girls Section, in collaboration with the colleges. Moreover, in a speech on this occasion, Dr. Al Amoudi said, "God created humans, paved their ways towards awareness and self-protection. Health awareness and self-protection against diseases have become a dire need, especially with the increase in cognitive development and global openness that has accelerated widespread and accepted health culture among various segments of society."
Dr. Al Amoudi added that the participation of Umm Al-Qura University, through all its colleges, in the National Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign was an extension to its previous successes in the same domain within "Pink" October, the month of breast cancer awareness worldwide. She noted that the campaign aimed at building a society that was aware of the significance of early discovery of the disease. The campaign also included providing society with the most recent and effective ways to discover the reasons for, examination means of and protection procedures against the disease. In addition, UQU covered the event through open lectures and dialogues by specialists in the various fields of medicine, psychology, sociology and religion. Dr. Al Amoudi pointed out that the current role of UQU stemmed from its abidance by societal responsibility programmes activation. In fact, the campaign was based on the wise Saudi Government Vision 2030, the objectives of which included, but were not limited to, the increase of health awareness in society.
Dr. Al Amoudi clarified that the campaign would be accompanied by three seminars entitled, "Life is Responsibility," "Hand-in-Hand," and "Hope Remains." It would also launch inside the Girls Headquarters mobile media campaigns, drop-in and talk sessions by a number of specialists, awareness sessions about the disease and best nutrition for patients, as well as religious lectures. Besides, Dr. Al Amoudi noted that it was decided for the campaign to participate in events at Abraj Al-Bait to spread awareness against the disease. At the end of the speech Dr. Al-Amoudi thanked HE UQU President Dr. Bakri Bin Maatouq Assas and UQU Vice President, Dr. Yasser bin Suleiman Shosho for their unending support for all the Deanship of University Studies' activities and programmes. She also thanked all the participants in preparations and arrangements of the campaign including the Vice-deans, Vice-Deans of Supportive Deanship, Vice-deans of colleges and Assistant Heads of Departments, and female students.
