The College of Applied Medical Sciences organized the World Health Day event on Jumada II 22, 1437H, from 4 to 10pm. The event was held at Hijaz Mall in Makkah, under the supervision of the Dean of Applied Medical Sciences, Dr. Ahmed Eshi. Participants included students and staff from the college's various departments: Lab Medicine, Clinical Nutrition, Physiotherapy, and Clinical Technology.

By organizing that event, the college aimed to raise health awareness of mall visitors, and to introduce the Meccan community with hygiene principles, as well as disseminating the basic health concepts necessary for protection from a myriad of diseases that could add greatly to the treatment burden shouldered by both individuals and the State, and still with no conclusive guarantee that treatment shall lead to recovery. Such diseases would bring about grievous consequences on the individuals and community health.

The event focused on the health issues closely related to the Meccan community, proceeding from the staunch belief that physical, mental and spiritual health is the most precious treasure that humans could ever preserve. Given the fact that the incidence of lifestyle-related diseases is on the rise, raising awareness of the importance of food safety is of peculiar importance. All citizens and residents of all ages should be educated on the principles of balanced, healthy food, and the way to preserve food safety.

This should be laid down as the top priority for the voluntary work aimed for community service.  One of the objectives set for the event, in addition, was to train students of the Applied Medical Sciences and grant them the opportunity for acquiring the experiences necessary for assuming their role in serving the community, and providing it with high-quality health services.

As part of the event, BMI, body measurements, and body fat content, as well as blood sugar and blood pressure are measured for the mall visitors. Based on those measurements, students and faculty members provided health and dietary counseling, by using brochures, flyers, and posters. This had a positive effect on both students and visitors.

Towards the end of the event, the college students performed a silent scene through which they delivered a message to the community, highlighting the role of therapeutic nutrition specialists, lab specialists, physiotherapists, anesthesia specialists, and ER specialists, in protecting the community from numerous diseases and health problems.

For their part, in an endeavor to bring success to the event, the Dean of Applied Medical Sciences College, Dr. Ahmed bin Muhammad Eshi, interacted enthusiastically with the students and mall visitors. And so did faculty members of the Clinical Nutrition Department, Physiotherapy Department, Lab Medicine Department, and Clinical Technology Department. This added a great deal to the success of the event.
