The College of Education at Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Special Education Department, will organize an educative program for persons with special needs in a festival at Al-Zaidi district on Thursday, 6 Rabi` Al-Thani, 1440 A.H. to coincide with International Day of Persons with Disabilities. A number of public and private sectors will participate.
The program will include entertainment activities for persons with special needs and their families. The Special Education Department will hold exhibitions for autism, hearing impairment, articulation disorder, preparation, and early intervention.
The educative program includes a special section offering counseling for families of persons with special needs, and to answer their questions. It will also honor some persons suffering motor disabilities in Makkah for their participation in international games and sporting achievements.
In 1992, the United Nations designated the third of December to be International Day of Persons with Disabilities to promote their rights in social and developmental fields. In 2018 A.C., the United Nations determined the year's theme to be 'Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Guaranteeing Inclusion and Equality.' This is an inseparable part of the sustainable development plan for 2030.
