His Excellency the UQU President Discusses Cooperation with the Makkah Prisons Directorate

His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, President of Umm Al-Qura University, discussed today with General Majid bin Bandar Al-Duwaish, the Makkah Prisons Directorate, aspects of possible cooperation for rehabilitating the prisoners in Makkah. The meeting took place in His Excellency's office at Al-Abdiyyah Campus.

His Excellency the UQU President welcomed the Makkah Prisons Directorate and the delegation that accompanied him at Umm Al-Qura University. He appreciated the support that the University receives from the wise leadership for the educational process and its academic and research environment. He mentioned that the University, with all of its colleges and departments, is honored to cooperate with the security sectors due to its great efforts in maintaining security.

His Excellency added that the University, through its educational mission and societal responsibility, has about 108 students from the prisons of Makkah. They are enrolled in the Affiliate Program in Shari`ah, Da`wah, the fundamentals of religion, and the Arabic Language and literature. Moreover, the University is a member in the Tarahum Committee, which provides assistance for the prisoners and their families.

On his part, General Al-Duwaish expressed his sincere thanks to His Excellency the UQU President for his keenness on cooperating with the region's prisons. He appreciated the services that the University and its staff offer the inmates to help them proceed with their education and return to the society as well-qualified people provided with skills that enable them to integrate into the labor market.

The Prisons Directorate confirmed that this meeting comes within the context of a series of meetings held by the region's prisons, out of the belief in its responsibility towards reforming the inmates, helping them and rehabilitating them in all aspects of life, and based on the mission of the General Directorate of Prisons and its strategic plan that was launched by the Minister of Interior, His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef, at the beginning of this year, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.

The meeting was attended by the Reform and Rehabilitation Director in Makkah prisons, Colonel Muhammad Al-Harthi, Director of Reform in Mecca, Lieutenant Walid Al-Sa`di, Diretor of the Public Relations and Media Department in Makkah Prisons, Lieutenant Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Haqbani, and Director of Planning and Development in Makkah Prisons, Major Muhammad Uqab Al-Harthi.
