In honor of Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuly, UQU Vice President of Female Student Affairs, the Safe Driving Forum (2) was launched. The event was organized by the Traffic Safety Club, which is affiliated with the Vice Deanship of Student Affairs for Direction, Guidance, and Community Partnership. It was headed by Dr. Amal bint Omar Sandi, and was attended by Dr. Kholoud bint Mohamed Aboulnaja, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs for Activities and Student Training, supporting female vice deans, the academic staff, the Traffic Safety Club supervisor Ms. Riham Badriq, a number of representatives of government agencies and the private sector, and participating sponsors on Monday, 27 Safar, 1440 A.H. in Al-Jawharah Hall.
The opening ceremony for this occasion began with a welcome speech accompanied by a video of the royal order allowing Saudi women to drive cars, taking into account the application of and adherence to the necessary Shari`ah regulations.
The welcome speech also highlighted the statements of His Highness the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about the new horizons of Saudi investment, in line with Saudi Vision 2030. He stated that achieving goals and overcoming challenges requires a strong and mighty people, namely, the great Saudi people.
In this regard, Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuly expressed her happiness at the decision to allow women to drive, which contributes to achieving their independence in light of the policies towards a modern developmental renaissance that is in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
She also thanked all the participants of this event, and praised the efforts of His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, President of Umm Al-Qura University, and the Vice Deanship of Student Affairs for their unlimited support that benefits the students of Umm Al-Qura University.
In this context, Dr. Amal bint Omar Sandi, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs for Direction, Guidance, and Community Partnership, stressed in her speech that allowing women to drive is a societal responsibility in order to achieve safe and careful driving.
Following this, Dr. Sarah Al-Khuly toured the exhibition accompanying the event, which included several sections aimed at raising awareness of traffic regulations and instructions to achieve safe driving. There were various sections: one for the Saudi Society for Traffic Safety, another one on raising safety-awareness of gasoline use, and a section on insurance. The exhibition has also sections for the General Department of Traffic, the National Center for Security Operations, and a section that shows the most important applications of controls and regulations. This was followed by an exciting driving experience for Dr. Sarah Al-Khuly, who tested a simulator in a BMW. In addition, exciting competitions were held in which the female participants won gifts and prize draws.
