The Health Club of the College of Public Health and Health Informatics at UQU, with the Department of School Health Affairs in Makkah, participated in an awareness and educational campaign on the occasion of the 'World Obesity Day', held on the Education Department stage in Al-Aziziyah on Wednesday 22 Safar, 1440 A.H. (corresponding to 31 October 2018). The campaign was held in the presence of Dr. Fahd Al-Zahrani, Assistant Director of Education in Makkah Al-Mukrramah Region for Educational Affairs; Mr. Mohammed bin Mastour Alslimi, Director of School Health Affairs; and Dr. Waheeb ibn Dukhaillah Al-Harbi, Dean of the College of Public Health and Health Informatics. Dr. Salah Al-Din Mohamed Alawana and Dr. Mohamed Osama Nour also took part in this campaign, as well as a number of the students from the College of Public Health and Health Informatics's Health Club.
The Health Club established several sections for this campaign, including an educational section on the dangers of obesity and its relationship to other diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure; a section for measuring blood sugar; and a section for measuring blood pressure for all the school students, teachers, and administrators in attendance.
The Health Club of the College of Public Health and Health Informatics at UQU was keen to take part in this campaign due to its effective role in raising awareness among the educational community, which is considered the basis of education and knowledge, imparting healthy information and behavior from school life to community life, spreading the culture of regular physical activity, and following a healthy diet to prevent various diseases caused by obesity.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants were honored by Dr. Fahd Al-Zahrani, Assistant Director of Education in Makkah Al-Mukrramah Region for Educational Affairs and Mr. Mohammed bin Mastour Alslimi, Director of School Health Affairs, and were awarded certificates of thanks and appreciation for their efforts in making this campaign a success.
