At the meeting room of his Abediyah-based office, Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Omar Bafil, President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), launched the Email Upgrade Project for Affiliates. This was in the presence of Dr. Hani bin Othman Ghazi (UQU Vice-President for Development and Entrepreneurship), Dr. Abdulaziz bin Rashad Soroujy (UQU Vice-President for Educational Affairs), as well as a number of deans and vice-deans of relevant colleges and vice-deanships.

During the event, Dr. Saud Al-Otaiby, Vice-Dean of Information Technology for Technical Affairs, said that the IT Deanship was concerned with the utilization of the latest technology to present the highest security levels to the affiliates’ email. In addition, he pointed out to the various stages applied by the vice-deanship during the upgrade process. He also pointed out that this upgrade was done by an experienced Saudi technical team at the deanship led by Eng. Faisal Al-Ghamdy.

In the same context, Eng. Faisal Al-Ghamdy, Head of the Operating Systems Department, noted that the project included an email with a 50 GB mailbox and 1 TB of OneDrive storage, in addition to the ability to use Microsoft Office web versions. He also noted that the email in its new format contained more features and other advantages that contributed to the service of UQU staff members and employees.

In turn, Dr. Hani Ghazi hailed the efforts exerted by the IT Deanship’s team. In other words, he said that the team was working constantly on the development of technical programs that were compatible with modern technologies. Moreover, he appreciated the support and guidance by Prof. Dr. Bafil for the development of IT systems to be harnessed for the service of UQU affiliates.

On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Bafil instructed that all the various UQU colleges, vice-deanships, research centers and departments should not receive any emails except from the official UQU email, due to its high privacy and security. He pointed out that this contributed to the upgrade of UQU’s information security level, maintained the confidentiality of transactions and preserved the rights of all UQU affiliates.

Within the same vein, Prof. Dr. Bafil appreciated the support given by the wise Saudi leadership (May Allah save it!) for the educational programs and their administrative, academic and technical environments. He explained that such programs contributed to the service of more than 120 thousand UQU staff members, employees and students. He also pointed out to the support of HE Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Al-Isa, the Minister of Education, for the programs and activities offered by UQU in various domains.
