Children's Cancer is one of the notably spread diseases lately, which horrify everybody with the fear that one of their children may be hit by it. The infected people get chemotherapy with its side effects, so they have to follow a nutrition plan to reduce the impact of the chemotherapy and increase the chances for recovery.
On Monday, the American website “kids health”, coinciding Children’s World Cancer Day, disclosed a report mentioning the most important foods that are good for children with cancer. It stressed on the importance of speaking with a Nutritionist about the best foods, as children with cancer need more protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. The foods that were mentioned on the website are as follows”
Proteins:
The report said that eating proteins during getting chemotherapy helps children in building the blood cells and renewing the immunity system. So, they should get sufficient protein to help in the quick recovery and face the impacts of the chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Moreover, protein helps in preventing the child from being hit by the disease. Cheese, eggs, lean meat, chicken, fish, beans, nuts, lentil, and soybean are good sources of protein.
Carbohydrates
are considered the fuel of the body. They provide the cells with energy and help in preserving the function of the immunity system. The list of foods that contain good sources of carbohydrates includes bread, pasta, potatoes, whole grains, fruits, corn, beans, and the grains that contain fibers, as they make children better for longer time and prevent constipation, which is one of the side effects of the cancer therapies.
Fats
Fats help the body to store energy and carry vitamins via the blood path. They are essential in fighting the weight loss during the therapy. Unsaturated fats that are in fish, nuts, olive oil, and vegetables are more healthy than the saturated that are in the red meat and fried foods.
Specialists advise that children should not be given supplements, because they interfere with some of the cancer therapies. They are preferably be taken in the natural foods and not medications.
