The President of Umm Al-Qura University who serves also as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Chair for Historic Makkah Studies, Dr. Bakri bin Matouk Al-Assas inaugurated in his office at the university campus in Abidiah the book of "Prince Faisal's term as viceroy of Hejaz during King Abdul-Aziz Era 1344-1373H", a scientific, historical and academic publication written by the researcher Dr. Sheikha bint Saleh Shuaib. The book is reckoned the 17th scientific publication of King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Chair for Historic Makkah Studies at Umm Al-Qura University. The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of the Supervisor of the Chair, Dr. Abdullah bin Hussein Al-Sherif.
Meanwhile, the supervisor of the chair, Dr. Al-Sherif reviewed the significance and content of the book saying that when King Abdul-Aziz took control over Hijaz, he appointed a man with necessary leadership characteristics and personal qualifications to manage the affairs of this significant region, that was his son prince Faisal for the superiority, brilliance, sagacity and intelligence he had shown and as a gifted man due to his appropriate and predominant opinions and that he was acquainted with all characteristics of leadership. He went on saying that Prince Faisal had grown up in a good environment and was inspired by his father's wisdom, statesmanship, knowledge of men and world affairs and their changing circumstances and the unstable political conditions and his participation in the unification and establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He added that this book antedates a very important stage of Hijaz history in the era of King Abdul-Aziz, which is the term of Prince Faisal as viceroy of Hejaz. It explains the reasons behind appointing Prince Faisal as viceroy of Hejaz by King Abdul-Aziz, Prince Feisal's personal and leadership characteristics, tasks of the viceroy general, its administrative structure and the political approach adopted by Prince Faisal in governing Hijaz, his role in dealing with the domestic local and international stances towards the capturing of Hijaz. In addition to his mandate in Hejaz, Prince Faisal held political and administrative positions including the head of council of representatives, speaker of Shura Council, prime minister, minister of foreign affairs and etc..
The Book also touched upon the military and leadership role of Prince Faisal, his role in the foreign politics at that stage, his wise representation of his country in the international conferences and forums and his role in establishing the Arab league and United Nation.
The Book also highlighted the administrative developments and the civilizational achievements witnessed in Hijaz during Prince Faisal's tenure as viceroy of Hejaz which covered all fields including health, education, means of communication and transportation, security, judiciary, urbanism and etc.
Dr. Al-Sherif explained that as part of the keenness of King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Chair for Historic Makkah Studies to highlight the efforts of the men who contributed to the service of the Two Holy Mosques and the development and advancement of Makkah, this book was published in recognition of the King Faisal's historical role in building the great Saudi entity. He added that publishing of this scientific work within the chair's research publications comes to enrich historical knowledge and to preserve an important historical era of our Saudi history, besides contributing to publishing studies related to the history of Makkah and that the historical and cultural production of the chair is reckoned the fruit of the attention paid by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to history, historians and historical institutions, in the torchbearer of knowledge and culture , the land of the two Holy Mosques.
Additionally, Dr. Al-Sherif touched upon the research achievements of the Chair which included 70 verified scientific research, of which 17 books have been published and 37 research will be published during the Holy Month of Ramadan and the remaining researches will be published successively.
Further, he lauded the support provided by UQU President and the parties supervising the scientific chairs in the university as well as the efforts of King Abdul-Aziz Foundation for Researches and Archive and its secretary general Dr. Fahad Al-Samari and the impact of such support in the achievements made by the Chair.
For his part, President of UQU and the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Chair, Dr. Bakri bin Matouk Al-Assas, lauded the efforts, achievements, excellence and the abundance research output made by the Chair. He commended the role of the chair's supervisor, Dr. Al-Sherif, the researchers working for the Chair from inside and outside the university, and importance of the role for which the Chair was established as well as the close and the direct care for the chair by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the honor of naming the chair after him, who had inaugurated the agreement of its establishment, reflecting his concern about documenting the scientific and cultural studies of Makkah. This came in the context of his interest in science, cultural renaissance and the scientific institutions in general and Umm Al-Qura University in particular.
