College of Dentistry participated with Mobile Dental Clinics in the campaign of “My Volunteering is Health" to commemorate World Volunteer Day which falls on December 5, at Al-Baida Village located Southwest of Makkah. The campaign was organized by Makkah Health Affairs Directorate and launched by the Director General of Makkah Health Affairs Dr. Mostafa Baljoon in the presence of Bahra Mayor Mr. Khalid Al-Bogami with the participation of eight governmental charity organizations. The volunteering campaign comes as part of the Initiatives of Makkah Cultural Forum titled "How to Be a Role Model", under the supervision of Makkah Region Emirate.
The campaign that lasted for three days included eight medical mobile clinics from various specialties to serve residents of the village. The participating team included 18 volunteers from the college led by the College Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Hassan bin Suleiman Hazzazi and was supervised by the Supervisor of Mobile Dental Clinics Dr. Sharif Hassan and the Clinical Supervisor Prof. Hisham Sadiq.
The Mobile Clinics received 62 patients including 34 females and 28 males who underwent initial check-ups and examinations by the latest equipment and medical tools, after which the proper measures were adopted including; teeth cleaning, gum treatments, tooth extraction and filling and fluoride was applied to 23 patients at a rate of 36.3%, whilst 42 cases were referred to the Dental Teaching Hospital to complete their treatment for free. After that, awareness lecture was presented and gifts including toothpaste and brushes were distributed to more than 115 patients visiting the clinic. Additionally, awareness dental corner was established at the awareness tent and was praised by all audience.
On this occasion, the Director General of Makkah Health Affairs Dr. Mostafa Baljoon and Mayor of Bahra Mr. Khalid Al-Bogami expressed their happiness for the preparations, capacities and national cadres they have seen in the mobile dental clinics and extended their thanks and appreciation to Umm Al-Qura University for its participation in these volunteering initiatives.
In turn, the Dentistry College appreciated all those who joined this work including Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Al-Aqeeli, Mohamed Hussein Al-Joudi, Ali Abdulghani Al-Zahrani, Faisal Abdul-Mohsin Al-Mabadi, Abdul-Malik Ali Al-Mazam, Naif Dihiabish Al-Harthi, and the female physicians Zahraa Hilal Al-Ashour, Renad Turki Ezzat, Amjad Ibrahim Alaaulddin, Samar Suleiman Jastnia in addition to the administrative officers; Mr. Moslih Saud Al-Sarani and Abdullah Al-Aseeri.
For his part, the Dean of Dentistry College Dr. Abdul-Aziz Khotani extended his thanks and appreciation to the UQU President Dr. Bakri Assas for his continuous support provided for all activities and programs of the college.
