Advisory Body of King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Chair for the Study of Makkah History Approves Continuation of Chairs Works

The Advisory Board of King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Chair for the Study of Makkah History at Umm Al-Qura University approved the recommendation of funding and extending the chairs work for three years as of the academic year 1438/1439 H during a meeting headed by the UQU President who serves also as the Chairman of the Chairs Advisory Board Dr. Bakri bin M'atooq bin Bakri Assas. Present in the meeting were the Board members including; the Secretary-General of King Abdul-Aziz Foundation for Research and Archive (Darah) Dr. Fahad Al-Sammari, UQU Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research  Dr. Thamir bin Hamdan Al-Harbi, Dean of Scientific Research Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Ahdal, Sheikh Dr. Saud Al-Shuraim, Dean of Sharia and Islamic Studies College Dr. Ghazi Al-Otaibi, Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education College Dr. Khalid Barqawi, Vice Dean of Scientific Research for Scientific Chairs Dr. Abdul-Wahab Al-Reseni and Professor Abdullah Al-Sharif. 


In the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Assas valued the approval and keenness of the board's members to extend the chair works for three years as of the academic year 1438/1439 H and to fund the chair by the university in appreciation of its status reflecting keenness of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in history, heritage and culture and the importance of the chair in documenting the history of the Two Holy Mosques and the efforts of the Kingdom in reconstructing the Two Holy Mosques and Holy Sites and providing modern services for pilgrims and Umrah performers bounding to them. 

 

He added that the Advisory Body has set a clear plan to be carried out during the extension period. "This plan comes in line with the Kingdom Vision 2030 which attaches significant concern to history and national heritage as main pillars", he expounded lauding the permanent cooperation between King Abdul-Aziz Foundation for Research and Archive (Darah) and UQU which contributed to the success of the chairs research plan in its first work term. He also praised efforts exerted by the members of the advisory body to achieve the objective for which the chair was created.  

 

For his part, the Advisor at the Royal Court, the Secretary-General of King Abdul-Aziz Foundation for Research and Archive (Darah) Dr. Fahad Al-Sammari lauded the efforts of the chair during its first phase and its cultural and research excellence in serving the community praising the support which the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman ibn Abdul-Aziz lends to history, civilization, historians and science  and the valuable awards and top medals dedicated to researchers. He also praised the support provided by UQU President Dr. Bakri Assas to the chairs works and activities during its past five years.  

 

In a similar fashion, Professor Abdullah Al-Sharif said the Advisory Board reviewed the chairs achievements in its first phase and its excellence in the fields of research and publications whereas the chair has published  21 books, including; 55 scientific research besides participating in and organizing several cultural events including; symposia, courses, lectures, and exhibitions. He added that the meeting discussed the future plan of the chair.

 

He went on to add that the Advisory Board recommended continuing the chairs work based on a new vision in achieving scientific research, publishing, translation consultations and community service in such manner which meets requirements of labor market and knowledge economy besides motivating youth and graduate students towards scientific research and historical knowledge  which help in boosting community awareness, maintaining religious and national identity  and contributing to sustainable development.
