Within the framework of the “Chemistry for All" introductory program organized within the Arab Chemistry Week by the Department of Chemistry at the College of Applied Sciences starting from Sunday 2nd Safar 1439H through the whole week, the fifth day program of the event was finalized. This was in the presence of Dr. Hala bint Saeed Al-Amoudi, Dean of the University Studies for Girls, and Dr. Farida bint Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, Vice-Dean of the University Studies. The event, which was concluded with scientific lectures, an accompanying exhibition and a chemical debate, was held on Thursday, 6th Safar 1439H at 11:00am, at the inner courtyard of Building C in front of the chemistry labs. The attendees were warmly received by Dr. Tahany bint Muhammad Bawazir (Assistant Head of the Chemistry Department), Dr. Rajaa bint Taher Maatouq (Vice-Dean of the Applied Sciences College), Dr. Badriyah bint Ali Al-Jahdaly (Vice-Dean of the Applied Sciences College for Educational Affairs and Development), as well as a number of Chemistry Department staff members.

The event included a lecture titled, “Chemistry in Our Lives" by Dr. Thorayya Abdurrahim Farghali. The lecture emphasized the significance of chemistry in our lives and its effective role in all domains. Moreover, another lecture titled, “Chemistry: Unending Applications" was presented by Dr. Marwa Al-Ghalban who explained the role of chemistry in the different applications in our daily lives.

This was followed by an epic titled, “Chemical Debate" and presented by the Department’s students under the supervision of Dr. Gharam Muhammad.

In the same context, the event included introductory corners by the Chemistry Department prepared by the students and supervised by the following staff members: Prof. Dr. Thorayya Abdurrahim Farghali, Dr. Badriyah Al-Jahdaly, Dr. Marwa Al-Ghalban, Dr. Rasha Mekkawy, Dr. Aliaa Alfy, as well as Prof. Rajaa Noqaly. In addition, the corners of the exhibition during the week featured the role of chemistry in industry, beauty, medicine, health and food.

It is noteworthy that the event was visited by a group of female UQU Vice-Presidents, staff members and students.

This was accompanied by a survey of educational chemical tours throughout the week, under the supervision of Dr. Badriyah Al-Jahdaly. A number of scientifically well-trained students toured the student gathering offices and areas in colleges and academic departments within the headquarters of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies in Al-Zaher. This aimed to spread awareness among the university community (students, staff members and employees) of the significance of chemistry and its various applications in our lives, by talking directly with them in no more than five minutes about life chemical facts and information. Therefore, the organization of this event at this time aimed to keep the activities and events of the Chemistry Department at the College of Applied Sciences, UQU in line with local and international events.

At the end of the event, Dr. Hala Al-Amoudi, Dr. Tahany Bawazir and Dr. Badriyah Al-Jahdaly honored the participants with certificates and commended their exerted efforts for the success of this program.
