At his Aziziyah-based office, Dr. Yasser bin Suleiman Shosho, Vice-President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) and Head of the Smoking Damage Awareness Committee in Makkah, headed the eleventh committee meeting to discuss its executive plans. The meeting was attended by the members of the Committee who represented government and civil authorities in Makkah.
In this regard, Dr. Yasser Shosho appreciated the support and directions given by HRH Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Advisor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Emir of Makkah Region, to the Smoking Damage Awareness Committee at the Central Area of the Holy Mosque and the public places in Makkah. He also commended the support of Dr. Bakri bin Maatouq Assas, UQU President, for the activation of the social participation of UQU in a manner appropriate to its scientific status.
In the same context, he explained that UQU played its role with the committee through the provision of many awareness lectures and programs to warn people against the scourge of smoking and its probable consequences. In addition, he pointed out that UQU participated with an analytical study on smoking, its effects and mechanisms to combat it, in addition to other awareness programs provided by UQU Medical Center periodically for the affiliates of the University. He also commended the efforts exerted by the committee members.
Then, Dr. Yasser Shosho honored the committee members who belonged to government and civil authorities in return for their efforts during the period of the committee's work last year.
