The UQU President, Dr. Bakri Matoq Assas, and Al-Laith University College staff held a ceremony to honor the former Dean of Al-Laith University College, Dr. Hamid bin Ahmed Al-Shanbari, for his valuable efforts throughout his tenure that started with the foundation till the college housed 8 thousand students in 4 colleges that offer academic disciplines in line with job market's requirements. The event was attended by the Vice-president for Branches, Dr. Abdulmajeed Al-Ghamdi, a number of Al-Laith government officials, faculty members and staff at Student Activities Theater in Al-Laith University College.
The ceremony commenced with recitation of Quranic verses, followed by a speech from the current dean, Dr. Mohamed bin Abdullah Al-Malki, in which he said, "Today, Al-Laith University College celebrates one of its founders and pioneers, Dr. Hamid bin Ahmed Al-Shanbari, who served the UQU's branch in Al-Laith for over 40 years,". He maintained that Al-Shanbari's career is full of accomplishments, noting that the last decade of his career was the most impressive. University College was originally started out as a college for female teachers preparation with limited capabilities before it joined UQU, where a branch was established for male students. It was Al-Shanbari who founded Al-Laith University College in its current form with the boundless support of the wise government and the directives of the UQU President, Dr. Bakri Matouq Assas, which had a positive impact on equipping students with all disciplines needed in job market.
He then pointed out that foundation was the most important stage since it involved courses and study plans preparation, infrastructure, faculty members recruitment, and establishment of labs and classrooms. Al-Malki also noted that Al-Shanbari gave his best till the college included 10 academic departments housing 7 thousand students. Later, attendance watched a documentary of Al-Shanabari.
In this respect, Al-Shanbari lauded the support her received from the government during his tenure as the dean of University College. He also thanked Assas for his wise directives that helped develop the different college's programs that fulfill job market's needs. Afterwards, Al-Shanbari gave an overview of the history of high education in Al-Laith governorates and its towns and villages.
On his part, Assas reiterated that thanks to the generous support UQU received from the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince, Al-Laith governorate has become one of the top governorates with expansion of high academic education that prepares students to be a source of pride for their community and homeland.
Further, Assas lauded Al-Shanbari for his dedication during his direct supervision over foundation of high education in Al-Laith governorates. He noted that Al-Shanbari is one of UQU's pioneers who spend a decade founding and developing high education in Al-Laith as the Dean of University College. Thanks to Al-Shanbari's efforts, this UQU's branch in Al-Laith has become a beacon of academic enlightenment for Al-Laith governorate and its villages. This branch accommodates 8 thousand students studying at 4 colleges: University College, College of Computers, College of Engineering, and College of Health Sciences.
At the end, the UQU president, the dean of Al-Laith University College, faculty members and staff honored Dr. Hamid Al-Shanbari.
