As part of the training courses and development lectures held during the first semester of the academic year 1443 A.H., the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research at Umm Al-Qura University held a training course on Wednesday, 14 Rabi` Al-Awwal 1443 A.H. The course took place in the research tent at the institute's headquarters in Al-Aziziyah and was entitled: “Introducing and Benefiting from Patents”.

At the beginning of the session, the trainer spoke about patents and their importance in supporting the knowledge economy, progress and prosperity, both scientifically and practically. He then introduced patents and explained the difference between them and innovations and other proprietary rights, such as copyrights, trademarks, industrial models, etc.

Within the same vein, the trainer underscored the importance of legal knowledge regarding how to maintain rights, whether for innovations, patents, or authorships, so that the efforts of the researcher are recognized and their rights are not attributed to others. “Patents are mostly in applied research that yield products and their registration contribute to protection against commercial exploitation of the invention,” he expounded.

Moreover, he noted that a patent is a property document issued by a governmental body and is inheritable and transferable, within a limited period of time, to ensure that the patent and product are protected from remanufacturing and sale.

At the end of the course session, the trainer answered the questions posed by the participants. Finally, the Dean of the College honored and appreciated the trainer for his outstanding course and various benefits it included.
