World Profession Day 2017

There is no doubt that the work and quest for livelihood is one of the requirements of earthly reconstruction and reform. Moreover, the achievement of human representation of Allah, the Almighty, on Earth requires the concept of dynamism in life; people harness each other in order to reconstruct the Earth and benefit themselves.

Allah, the Almighty, ordered His worshippers to work. He said, "It is He Who has made the earth manageable for you, so traverse ye through its tracts and enjoy of the Sustenance which He furnishes: but unto Him is the Resurrection.”

Allah, the Almighty, sent and chose human messengers from among His worshippers. Although the messengers were responsible for the greatest mission, i.e. informing people with the message of religion and the law, they practiced in their lives what human beings practiced. They ate, drank, walked in the markets, worked and spared neither effort nor energy to earn their living. In other words, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was a shepherd then a merchant, Noah was a carpenter, Aaron was a minister, David was a leader who used iron and made shields, Idris was a tailor and Ibrahim was a builder, as stated in the Holy Qur'an.

In this framework, a livelihood project is any work, craft or profession through which one can invest the individual's energies to improve his standard of living and increase his income. This is because profession is a job which was based on science and experience and was chosen appropriately according to its domain; it requires specific skills and specializations and is governed by regulation laws and ethics.

Profession Ethics:

- Functional honesty includes: financial, scientific and performance honesty.

- Justice: is to give to give everyone his due without excess or negligence. In other words, it is the giving of due rights and the settlement among beneficiaries in their rights.

- Self-control: is the sense of the employee and the worker that they are charged with and entrusted to the performance of work, without the need for an official to remind them of their responsibilities.

- Strength: is the first qualification for positions; Allah, the Almighty, said, “…truly the best of men for thee to employ is the (man) who is strong and trusty" (The Story, Stories: 26).

- Good treatment: a legitimate duty proved by the saying of Allah, “…speak fair to the people;…” (The Cow: 83).

- Modesty: “And swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for Allah loveth not any arrogant boaster.” (Luqman: 18).

- Compassion: is of great importance to the job. The official is asked to be close to the employees and workers, so he does not force them to work, but rather has mercy on them, just as he likes others to take care of his circumstances and comfort.

- Patience: It is assumed that the official should be patient and not respond to others’ lure of anger; it is the most appropriate way to avoid such failure.
